Masterplan Bethesda

By activating the various gardens, historic courtyards, and viewpoints of the Bethesda estate, the site transforms into a new hospital campus that extends the village fabric of Tschugg.

The transversal axis aligns with the “village-street” typology of the Tschugg commune. It is consolidated into a “spinal column” leading to the main buildings of the hospital campus.

The outdoor spaces maximize their green areas, creating a welcoming and rejuvenating landscape for patients, staff, and visitors alike. These three areas are an ideal place to replant trees and shrubs, providing pleasant shade in the summer, vibrant colors in the fall, and more coolness for the neighborhood.

Various parks, orchards, and gardens offer a range of activities, from meetings and exchanges in large open spaces to moments of rejuvenation in a more intimate context, conducive to calm and relaxation.

Reflecting the local village character, the public squares give prominence to variations of paving and flagstones in natural stone, underscoring the connection to the village.

Harmonious Integration with the Local Fabric: The project naturally integrates into the context of the “village-road” of Tschugg, thereby strengthening the connection between the hospital campus and the local community. This architectural and landscape continuity creates a welcoming and familiar space for residents and visitors.

A Structuring Spinal Column: The project’s transversal axis, conceived as a spinal column, facilitates orientation and movement within the campus, while efficiently connecting the various buildings and hospital services.
